Training & Education Chair
Role with PSI:
My role is to serve as the chairperson of Education and Training. This role includes reviewing and updating the education and training materials currently available for pre-conference, outreach activities, and speaker's bureau.
Current projects:
Creating a brochure for PSI trainings, as well as reviewing the training materials we currently have.
Bio:
Pec trained as a Family Practice Physician Assistant at Johns Hopkins University. After working in Family Practice and Women's Health, she went on to get a Master's degree in Health Psychology from the University of Santa Clara, and a Doctorate from the University of San Francisco in Counseling. Pec is licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist, and has a private practice in San Jose, California, specializing in perinatal mood disorders.
An active member of PSI since 1996, she began teaching and training for PSI in the late 1990's. Pec was involved in updating the original PSI curriculum, and lectures at hospitals, conferences, doctor's offices, moms groups, and to anyone who will listen. She was the Secretary for Postpartum Health Alliance, and helped establish and train volunteers for the Northern California PPD Warmline.
She is a past Northern California Coordinator and the Recipient of the Jane Honikman Award in 2007.
Pec is the co-author of the award-winning book, Beyond the Blues, A Guide to Understanding and Treating Prenatal and Postpartum Depression (2006). She's been an invited participant on several federal grants, including the development of www.MedEdPPD.org, and creation of the HRSA booklet, Depression During and After Pregnancy.
She is an active member of the North American Society for Psychosocial OB/GYN (NASPOG), and the mother of two daughters. She is a passionate warm water scuba diver, and loves tropical fish.
