Shari Lusskin, MD
Director of Reproductive Psychiatry

Shari I. Lusskin, MD is the first Director of Reproductive Psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine where she holds a joint appointment as a Clinical Associate Professor in Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is the director and founder of The NYU Reproductive Psychiatry Conference.

Dr. Lusskin is the Director of Psychopharmacologic Agents for the Reproductive Toxicology Center, a Non-Profit Foundation. The Reproductive Toxicology Center operates Reprotox®, a computerized data base on the reproductive and developmental effects of drugs and other chemicals, biologics, and physical agents. She is a member of the Expert Panel of the National Toxicology Program Center for the Evaluation of Risks to Human Reproduction (CERHR) which recently reviewed the use of stimulants in pregnancy. The co-author of the Reproductive Psychiatry sections of Ob/Gyn UpToDate, an on-line and CD-ROM textbook. She also co-authored the Obstetrics section of the “Manual of Psychiatric Care for the Medically Ill,” published by the American Psychiatric Association. She has served as an ad hoc reviewer for the American Journal of Psychiatry, the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, the Archives of Women’s Mental Health, Biological Psychiatry, and Current Psychiatry.

Dr. Lusskin has lectured extensively in the US and Canada, as well as in Europe and India, speaking both to medical and general audiences on topics in Women’s Mental Health.

Dr. Lusskin is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and an attending physician at New York University Medical Center where she maintains a private practice. She is a member of the Advisory Board for Postpartum Support International.

A graduate of Williams College, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, she received her medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine and completed her internship and residency in Psychiatry at NYU Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital.

Dr. Lusskin has appeared on many local and national news programs including Good Morning America, The Today Show (with Brooke Shields), CNN, The O’Reilly Factor, and The Infinite Mind on National Public Radio. She has also been featured in many articles on topics in women’s mental health.
