Maria Muzik, MD, PMH-C

Dr. Muzik is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Obstetrics & Gynecology at Michigan Medicine. She graduated medical school at the University of Vienna, Austria, and completed residency in adult psychiatry both at University Hospital in Vienna and at Michigan Medicine. She holds a master’s degree in Clinical Research & Statistical Analysis from University of Michigan.

Dr. Muzik is the Medical Director of the Perinatal and Reproductive Psychiatry Service at Michigan Medicine. In this function she oversees perinatal psychiatry care delivered in psychiatry and integrated in obstetrics, family medicine and pediatrics. Dr. Muzik is also medical director for MC3 Perinatal, the state-wide perinatal psychiatry access program for primary care including obstetricians and family doctors.

Within Michigan Medicine she also co-directs Zero To Thrive, a multidisciplinary program focused on research, education and clinical care serving families from preconception, through birthing to early childhood.

Dr Muzik’s research focuses on the impact of stress, trauma and mental illness in the context of childbearing on caregiving and the developing parent-child relationship, and how to support families in overcoming psychological and environmental adversity. She is funded by the National Institute of Health, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Administration for Children and Families, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid in Michigan.
