Who are we?

Established in 2020 and led by Postpartum Support International, the Postpartum Support International Best Practice Committee for Perinatal Mental Health Equity is composed of 13 perinatal professionals with lived and learned experience providing mental health care for individuals who are pregnant or postpartum (hereafter, “perinatal individuals”). This diverse group brings together midwives, peer supporters, doulas, social workers, mental health counselors, lactation supporters, and obstetric clinicians who provide care for perinatal individuals underserved by our mental healthcare systems nationally. Considering the unique dual lens as providers and consumers, this Committee emphasizes an “all teach, all learn” philosophy to ensure an equitable place for all perinatal professionals at the table.

Our Mission. The mission of this Committee is to inform research that aims to infuse the principles of trauma-informed, adaptive evidence-based practice, cultural humility, and patient-centered care throughout the perinatal mental health systems of care by bringing together lived and learned expertise, evidence, and diverse perspectives assembled.
