When you’re exploring options for mental health treatment at a higher level of care than weekly therapy appointments, there are several options that might be appropriate for you, depending on the severity of the symptoms you’re experiencing.
While the specifics may vary, intensive treatment generally aims to help you heal through stabilization, medication management, education, increased access to various types of therapy, and social support.
It’s important that you access the treatment you need, even if the program doesn’t specialize in perinatal mental health. Remember that you are not alone in this – reach out to PSI for help finding resources at any point in the process.
To receive help in navigating the process of finding a program like those listed below, please fill out this form, and a Support Navigator from Postpartum Support International will reach out to you within 1-2 business days.

> Volunteer Spotlight

Ginna Ericksen holds a Master’s degree in Counseling, but her true education in maternal mental health began when her daughter, Emily, experienced postpartum anxiety and depression following the birth of her son. Supporting her through recovery opened Ginna’s eyes to how little awareness and infrastructure exist for women facing these challenges—and how isolating and frightening that journey can be.
Ginna is the narrator of the video above and currently volunteers with PSI to help keep the Intensive Treatment Program resources list up to date.
